Ashworths Beach Walk with Northern Pegasus Bay (Hurunui) Coastcare
Sunday 19 April, 10am – 12pm
Join NPBCC’s Kevin Roche and HDC ecologist Rima Herber for a guided walk to learn about the biodiversity-rich coast on the Hurunui side of the Ashley Estuary. This area hosts several rare native bird and plant species, including sebaea ovata, a flowering herb which is now fence-protected thanks to the efforts of NPBCC.
NPBCC’s volunteers protect existing native flora and fauna with predator trapping and fencing, do restoration planting, and advocate for environmentally appropriate recreational use of this popular but vulnerable coastal zone.
Meeting spot: Ashworths Beach Rd, turn east towards the beach at the Better Half Cafe (there is a turning lane for nth bound traffic) and go along the shingle road to the car park at the end, Do not go out to the Beach on the 4WD track. .Given the cost of fuel we will try to car pool and use fuel efficient MVs.
Wear sturdy footwear, bring sun and weather protection, water, etc.
