Birdsong Project,

Greta Valley

Sunday 26 July, 1pm – 4pm

Hurunui Weedbusters are returning to the inspiring Birdsong Restoration site at Greta Valley. We’ll tackle broom, blackberry and patches of briar rose, and also do some plant releasing. If time allows, we may also deal with some willow regrowth.

Birdsong Trust is a community project that got underway in 2023. Local volunteers have done extensive native planting above and along the stream of the beautiful Scargill-Motunau Reserve, and built a new track. The plants are doing well but need help to keep them free of weeds and long grass.

Directions: Meet by 1pm at the reserve, 125 Scargill Valley Road. (Turn off SH1 at Greta Valley village). To rideshare from Amberley, meet by 12.15 pm at the Hurunui District Council’s northern carpark (turn at the 50 kph sign, park behind the building). There’ll also be a car leaving from Christchurch.

Wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. We’ll bring gloves and tools, or you can BYO loppers, secateurs, grubbers. We’ll provide afternoon tea.

To sign up for this working bee, and find out about future events with Hurunui Weedbusters contact: [email protected] or call Belinda Meares, 022 1600 383. Please provide your phone number when registering.
