Hurunui Weedbusters head to Amberley Beach
Saturday 18 October, 9:30am – 12:30pm
This month Weedbusters will head towards the beach, helping Northern Pegasus Bay Coastcare volunteers with maintenance of an area of older native plantings. We’ll be working around the perimeter to free the plantings from tree lupin mainly.
Northern Pegasus Bay Coastcare is concerned with protecting native flora and fauna, including some rare species. Volunteers undertake native planting, predator trapping and promoting safe recreational behaviour by beach goers that respects the natural environment.
Directions: Meet by 9.30 am at Grierson Reserve, north end of Grierson Ave. (Look for the water tanks and the HBT sign). A car may be leaving from Christchurch. Enquire when registering.
Wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. We’ll bring gloves, tools and weed gel, or you can BYO – we’ll be mainly using loppers and pruning saws. The Coastcare group will provide morning tea. BYO lunch if you want to stay on for a picnic.
There are plenty of attractions to enjoy afterwards, including the beach, the Amberley Wetlands walkway and the cycle trail between Amberley and Leithfield.
