In 2012 it was recognised that the Woodland Ponds Hanmer Springs and the wetland areas surrounding those ponds required restoration. The area is Department of Conservation land administered by the Hurunui Disctrict Council under an MOU.
The long term goal is to act as guardians of present and future conservation areas for you and for Ngai Tahu who were the initial guardians of this land.
The name Te Tihi o Rauhea was gifted to the Trust by our local Kaikoura runanga - it means hill of shinning tussock referring to Conical Hill.
